The Spa and Ayurvedic Retreat

Deep in the midst of Landaa Giraavaru, the Spa and Ayurvedic Retreat pulsates with life and wisdom, purity and health. With a strong emphasis on natural healing, the 1-hectare (2.5-acre) complex draws its strength from the surrounding landscape, the integrity of ila’s Beyond Organic products, and the intrinsic spirituality of its therapists and ayurvedic physicians. The Spa's 10 vast open-air treatment pavilions – including three dedicated to ayurveda – are nestled in their own lush tropical gardens or on stilts over the turquoise lagoon. Welcome to the healing heart of Landaa Giraavaru.

The Ayurvedic Retreat
Ayurveda – the Indian science of life – is one of the world’s most comprehensive approaches to healthy living. It works by bringing balance to our vital energies – or doshas – through an individually tailored combination of treatments, exercise, diet and lifestyle modifications. With a focus on treating illness, preventing disease and enhancing physical, mental and spiritual well-being, ayurveda teaches us to live with insight and balance.

Set within the Herb Garden, lulled by gentle breezes and healing aromas, the Ayurvedic Retreat is an enclave of ancient knowledge and infinite well-being. Meet with our expert physicians to gain an understanding of your unique body-mind constitution; invest in single treatments or life-changing programmes; visit the Ayurvedic Pharmacy and learn how to make fresh poultices from hand-picked herbs. Above all, discover 5,000 years of wisdom distilled into one deeply restorative practice.

Complimentary ayurvedic wellness consultation
Ayurveda does not have standard prescriptions or programmes. Instead, ayurvedic physicians consider the unique needs of the individual to recommend treatments, oils, herbs, food and activity based on individual dosha types. Ayurveda largely focuses on prevention, meaning one doesn't have to be ill to benefit from a consultation with one of our physicians. Although some ayurvedic treatments may be taken without prior consultation, we highly recommend that Spa guests avail themselves of the complimentary 30-minute consultation we offer to all Resort guests. In addition, dosha-specific food labelling is available on all restaurant menus and throughout the breakfast buffet.

Blu
Located at the western end of the island overlooking a 2-kilometre (1.2-mile) lagoon, Blu embraces the essence of the Maldives as the place where the ocean meets the sky. From the restaurant pavilion on one side or the Blu Bar pavilion on the other, you can watch the sun sink below the horizon. The restaurant serves light antipasti, pizza and pasta during the day and fine Italian cuisine in the evening.

Specialties:
Contemporary Italian fare is served at lunch and dinner; homemade gelati are served poolside throughout the day. A children's menu is also available.

Al Barakat
Named after Abu Al Barakat Yusuf Al Barbari, a North African scholar who made Baa Atoll his home in the 12th century, Al Barakat serves authentic Arabian cuisine. The restaurant is built over water, off the main jetty. A Shisha Bar is located on the ground level. The main dining area on the rooftop features comfortable low seating.

Specialties:
Al Barakat offers Lebanese mezze, grill items and North African specialties. Shisha Bar serves Arabian coffee and features authentic Shisha water pipes.

Café Landaa
Overlooking the swimming pool and beach, the three thatch-roofed pavilions of Café Landaa are separated by reflecting ponds. For breakfast, lunch, and dinner, our chefs create exquisite delights with eastern and western influences.

Specialties:
Asian and regional specialties from the tandoor and curry kitchen; in the evening, teppanyaki is served at a dedicated counter in a dramatic water garden adjacent to the restaurant.

Fuego Grill
Located adjacent to the seawater pool and overlooking the eastern coast of the island, Fuego Grill is open for dinner. The restaurant offers fresh catch of the day as well as a wide selection of organic and prime cut meats, salads, sandwiches and Asian dishes from an open kitchen pavilion. Teak tables and chairs are set in the sand facing the sea.

Five Degrees North
The Resort's casual bar is named for the island's location, which lies five degrees north of the equator. Its nautically inspired décor features a dhoni (traditional boat) as the counter, with a library, pool table and selection of board games for entertainment. The bar also has an extensive drinks selection.

Blu Bar
In the casual sand-floor setting of Blu Bar, enjoy exotic juices, tropical cocktails or a refreshing young coconut. As the sun sets, an aperitif or glass of sparkling Prosecco is the perfect prelude to an Italian dinner next door at Blu.

Poolside Bar
Enjoy panoramic views of the Indian Ocean from the Poolside Bar. Wine, cocktails and refreshing tropical drinks are served throughout the day, as well as salads and light fare.

In-Villa Dining at Four Seasons is a fine-dining experience within the comfort and convenience of your bungalow or villa. Choose from an extensive menu throughout the day, featuring western and Asian favourites.

In-Villa Dining is available 24 hours a day.

Overview
Known internationally as one of the world's best scuba diving destinations, the Maldives presents divers with one thrilling dive opportunity after another. From the sheer abundance of dive sites around Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa to the proposed UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve near Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru, the Maldives' 90,000 square kilometres (34,749 square miles) of consistently warm waters offer outstanding visibility and truly unique diving options. Exhilarating sites include vibrant thilas, exciting channels, coral-filled overhangs and fascinating wrecks, and at some spots divers can even watch the seasonal migration of manta rays and whale sharks.

Each of the resorts' PADI Five-Star Gold Palm Dive Centres offers a two-tank morning dive and a one-tank afternoon dive, as well as sunrise, night and other specialty dives, available on request.

Orientation dive
Before engaging in boat-diving activities, divers who have not been diving within the last three months or have logged fewer than 30 dives are required to participate in an orientation dive, conducted daily in the lagoon. Please present your certification card and logbook when you register for diving.

All divers are advised to refrain from diving 12 hours after international flights and 24 hours before travelling by air, including by seaplane. Divers must complete a medical questionnaire prior to their first dive at either of our Four Seasons Maldives resorts. Depending on their responses to the questionnaire, divers may be required to pass a complimentary medical examination with our doctor.

Overview
The waters around Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru are home to a breathtakingly beautiful and rich ecosystem. Below the ocean's surface, precious coral reefs ring the islands, where fish painted in psychedelic colours swim, sea turtles coast and dolphins play. Whale sharks and manta rays also venture here to feed on tiny plankton.

Snorkellers, divers and other adventurers hoping to catch a glimpse of these creatures will enjoy more than just a sighting with the Resort's interactive marine programme, part of the most active centre for marine research and education in the Maldives. Led by Senior Marine Biologist Guy Stevens and the marine biology team, activities in the conservation programme guide guests through the alluring underwater world around the islands. Guests will experience once-in-a-lifetime encounters with a variety of marine creatures while learning about their life and habitat, and will even be able to participate in some of the Resort's conservation projects.

Proceeds from all activities support the Resort's Green Fund conservation and marine research programmes.

Marine Discovery Centre
Located on the island, the Marine Discovery Centre works to enrich the guest experience through education, research and conservation of the marine environment. It is the base for pioneering research on manta rays and whale sharks, leading to knowledge that will help preserve these near-threatened species. Marine biologists and student volunteers from around the world work on site at the 120-square-metre (1,292-square-foot) facility, which features a lab for breeding fish, as well as aquarium exhibits where guests can learn about the centre's projects through interactive educational displays. The Marine Discovery Centre is open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm daily.

Marine life presentations
The reef of the Maldivian archipelago represents one of the richest marine ecosystems on earth. Guests who are interested in learning more about the area's underwater life are invited to attend a marine life presentation by our resident marine biologist.

The presentation is offered five evenings a week in Five Degrees North bar and lounge. The following afternoon, guests enjoy a snorkelling excursion with our marine biologist, a unique way to discover the underwater world of the Maldives.

Activities for children
The Marine Discovery Centre's dedicated children’s section allows kids to immerse themselves in fun displays and a range of activities, including helping the marine biologists transplant coral frames, visiting the Fish Lab, and learning to snorkel in the Coral Garden amongst the work of the Reefscapers. A large touch tank offers opportunities to interact with sea cucumbers, starfish and crustaceans.

The area also introduces Kaku, Landaa’s resident journalist: a hermit crab that lives in the third hole on Landaa’s Palm Tree Road. As well as guiding film and language selections throughout the MDC, Kaku pens a nightly "Reef News" article about his adventures with his many reef and island friends.

Overview
Landaa Giraavaru lies in the remote Baa Atoll, home to some of the Maldives' most fascinating marine life. Swim with turtles, rays and juvenile lemon sharks or learn to kitesurf in the pristine 2-kilometre (1.2-mile) lagoon. Participate in thriving manta ray, fish breeding and coral propagation projects in the Marine Discovery Centre. Or snorkel with manta rays and whale sharks during their seasonal migration at nearby Hanifaru Bay.

Fun family activities include SEABOB rides, wakeboarding, banana boating, kayaking, dolphin cruises, sunset fishing and private island excursions, as well as diving programmes for guests aged eight and over.

The Health Club at Landaa Giraavaru is a unique mind-and-body experience designed to provide physical challenges and mental relaxation. Maintain your regimen in a state-of-the-art fitness facility featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, full-length mirrors, surround-sound audio system and advanced cardio fitness equipment with individual flat screen televisions. The rustic Maldivian charm of the setting magically stimulates and helps you unwind, resulting in an ultimate wellness experience.

Whether you plan to swim morning laps, cool off with a quick afternoon dip or splash around with the kids, the Resort offers something for everyone in its four separate swimming pools. The 50-metre (164-foot) infinity pool, the only Olympic-size pool in the Maldives, cantilevers over the lagoon, while the 20-metre (66-foot) seawater pool "floats" nearby. The Blu pool is the perfect spot to share views of a romantic sunset, and the shallow, free-form children’s pool, located within the Kids' Club area, will help keep children entertained for hours.

Complimentary pool service includes chilled scented towels, iced water, Evian spritzes and frozen fruit.

Take a break from aquatic activities to practise your tennis skills or take lessons from our on-site tennis pro. The Resort's outdoor tennis court is lit for night play, and complimentary tennis racquets and balls are available.
